Graham ISD Trustees Call Nov. 3 School Bond Election
$60 million bond proposal includes new (grades 1-5) elementary school, safety, security and accessibility projects
District residents will have the opportunity to vote on a single proposition bond proposal (Prop A) totaling $60 million dollars. It has been 18 years since Graham ISD voters last approved funding to address school facilities.
Projects in the proposed bond package include:
New Grades 1-5 elementary school to replace Crestview & Woodland
Safety & security projects at Pioneer Elementary, Graham Junior High and Graham High School
Accessibility projects at Pioneer Elementary, Graham Junior High and Graham High School
Projects to renovate and equip CTE programs like welding, agriculture and culinary arts, as well as provide equitable dressing and locker rooms for female students
Investing More While Keeping Taxes Low
The proposed bond will increase the Interest & Sinking (I&S) tax rate about five cents while still keeping Graham ISD’s overall tax rate one of the lowest in Young County. This comes to about $3 more each month for the average Graham ISD taxpayer.
How the Bond Supports Long-Term Savings
Funding specific projects through bonds, instead of the regular budget, saves money in the general fund to address operating expenses like staff salaries, utilities, fuel and other daily costs. In fact, consolidating elementary grades from three buildings to two will free up more than $640,000 in annual operating funds. The consolidation proposal does not impact teacher jobs because the same number of students will be served in two school buildings instead of three.
